This summer, Freedom Industries is proud to launch a community-wide Backpack Drive to support students across Nash County. After working with Nash County Public Schools and Down East Partnership for Children, we identified a critical need: Nearly 400 students require assistance heading into the school year. Approximately 340 of those students are experiencing homelessness. These are students in our community who deserve the opportunity to start the school year prepared, confident, and ready to succeed.

Our goal is to provide 400 fully equipped backpacks to students identified through our local partners — ensuring they have the tools they need on day one.
We’re calling on our employee-owners, vendor partners, local businesses, churches, and community members to join us in making this happen.

Collection Period: May 14 – June 26
Distribution: July (before school starts) Distribution will be done through the Nash County Public Schools McKenny Vento Program and Down East Partnership for Children to ensure they reach students most in need.

Why It Matters
A backpack is more than school supplies — it’s confidence, preparedness, and a strong start to the school year.
For many families, especially those facing housing insecurity, this support makes a meaningful difference.
This initiative is led by Freedom’s C3 Team — a group of employee-owners focused on strengthening our culture, communication, and community impact.
At Freedom Industries, being 100% employee-owned means we take responsibility not only for our work, but for our community.
We hope to grow this into a yearly initiative, continuing to support students in our community for years to come.
All donated items will first be used to fill backpacks for students in need. Any additional supplies will be distributed to schools with the greatest need, as identified by Nash County Public Schools.
The Down East Partnership for Children is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving Nash & Edgecombe counties. The partnership is dedicated to a strong foundation of development for health, families & communities, early care & education, and ready schools to launch every child as a healthy, lifelong learner by the end of third grade.
The Nash County Public Schools McKinney-Vento Program ensures that students experiencing homelessness have equitable access to a high-quality public education. This program works to remove barriers that may interfere with school enrollment, attendance, engagement, and academic success.
