Position Summary
The Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating construction equipment in support of industrial construction projects. This role includes operating a mini excavator, forklift, telehandler (lull), and/or skid steer loader, to move materials, excavate, place equipment, and support crews while maintaining a strong focus on safety, productivity, and quality.
Skills and Abilities
• Proficient operation of mini excavators, forklifts, telehandlers, and skid steer loaders
• Strong understanding of industrial construction site safety
• Ability to work safely around active crews, utilities, and structures
• Ability to understand hand signals and verbal directions
• Basic mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment
Experience/Education/Other
• Experience operating construction equipment – 2+ years preferred
• Equipment operation certification or equivalent a plus
• OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 training preferred
Essential Functions
Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The Company considers the functions listed here as essential to performance of the job duties.
• Operate heavy and light construction equipment including:
• Mini excavator
• Forklift
• Telehandler (lull lift)
• Skid Steer Loader
• Perform excavation, trenching, backfilling, grading, and material placement as directed
• Safely load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment
• Work closely with ground crews, foremen, and superintendents to support daily production goals
• Read and interpret basic site plans, grades, and layout markings
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete required checklists
• Identify maintenance needs and report mechanical issues immediately
• Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, utilities, and site hazards
• Follow all OSHA, company safety policies, and site-specific requirements
• Keep work areas orderly and free of safety hazards
• Assist with general labor tasks when equipment operation is not required
• Exposure to noise, dust, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions
• Requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, and operation of heavy equipment for extended periods
