Position Summary

The Instrumentation & Controls Superintendent provides overall field leadership and oversight for instrumentation and control systems on industrial construction projects. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all instrumentation and controls activities to ensure work is performed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems, field instrumentation, and electrical fundamentals
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, control schematics, and specifications
  • Good understanding of work sequencing and strategy of creating effective schedules
  • Skilled in electrical trade and related installations on an industrial level
  • Experience managing people within projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities


Experience/Education/Other 

  • Technical degree or certification in instrumentation, controls, or electrical systems preferred
  • Experience overseeing PLC‑based systems and commissioning activities
  • OSHA-30 safety training preferred
  • Experience working on large‑scale industrial construction projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software applications necessary to perform duties


Essential Functions

  • Review and interpret electrical drawings and specifications to ensure correct implementation
  • Develop and implement strategies for the sequencing of electrical work
  • Coordinate installation, testing, loop checks, commissioning, and startup activities
  • Ensure proper documentation is completed, including progress reports, test records, redlines, punch lists, project closeout activities, and final system turnover
  • Ensure quality control of all electrical installations
  • Participate actively in project meetings and coordinate with other construction disciplines
  • Create and maintain a culture that values respect, safety, health and cleanliness
  • Communicate, demonstrate, and enforce Safety Processes/Policies
  • May work inside or outside, in environments that may be hot/cold/wet, etc.
  • Repetitive movement, including but not limited to, squatting, standing, bending, walking, climbing, etc.
  • Must be able to walk on both level and unlevel surfaces, and use hands to feel/operate tools, objects, controls, etc.
  • May be exposed to fumes, flashing light, sparks, flames
  • Must be able to operate company vehicles (clean driving record)
  • Ensure quality control of all electrical installations
  • Oversee and manage the work of subcontractors and ensure adherence to project guidelines
  • Assist in the procurement of materials and equipment
  • Participate actively in project meetings and coordinate with other construction disciplines
  • Handle additional duties assigned by the Project Manager
  • Create and maintain a culture that values respect, safety, health and cleanliness
  • Communicate and enforce Safety Processes/Policies
  • Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through own actions and mentoring others
  • May work inside or outside, in environments that may be hot/cold/wet, etc.
  • Repetitive movement, including but not limited to, squatting, standing, bending, walking, climbing, etc.
  • Must be able to walk on both level and unlevel surfaces, and use hands to feel/operate tools, objects, controls, etc.
