Position Summary

The Combo Welder is responsible for performing a variety of welding processes on industrial construction projects and in fabrication shop environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in various welding techniques, fabrication and blueprint reading. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, familiarity with industry standards, and proficiency with a range of hand and power tools. The position demands a high standard of safety, precision, and workmanship, with flexibility to work in the field or shop as project needs require. This position offers an opportunity to work on diverse projects requiring technical expertise in welding and fabrication within a dynamic environment that values safety and quality craftsmanship.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of welding codes, procedures, and quality standards
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail, consistency, and quality

Experience/Education/Other 

  • Previous experience with welding/prefabrication and fabrication, in both field and shop environments
  • Proficiency in various welding techniques, such as MIG welding, TIG welding, FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), plasma cutting, and others
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading, schematics, mechanical drawings, and ASME codes and standards
  • Familiarity with fabrication processes involving sheet metal, ductwork, pipe threading, or assembly
  • Ability to operate various hand and power tools effectively
  • Mechanical knowledge related to fabrication projects including soldering or soldering techniques is a plus
  • Basic math skills for measurements and calculations required during fabrication tasks
  • Ability to work safely in physically demanding industrial environments
  • Ability to stand, bend, weld in confined spaces, and lift materials as required

Essential Functions Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.  The Company considers the functions listed here as essential to performance of the job duties.  

  • Perform various welding techniques in order to fabricate and repair metal structures and components
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to ensure precise fabrication
  • Perform fit‑up, fabrication, and welding of pipe, structural components, and assemblies
  • Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, beveling, grinding, and cleaning
  • Produce welds that meet visual, dimensional, and quality inspection requirements
  • Use calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances
  • Operate power tools such as press brake machines, plasma cutters, pipe threading equipment, and hand tools for fabrication tasks
  • Execute rigging, assembly, and installation of metal parts on construction sites or within manufacturing facilities
  • Conduct quality inspections using calipers, micrometers, and schematics to ensure adherence to ASME codes & standards
  • Follow safety procedures related to welding operations, rigging, scaffolding, and working at heights or around heavy equipment like cranes or forklifts
  • Maintain a clean work environment by inspecting equipment and ensuring compliance with safety regulations
